Hey! Wow - there is someone here. How long have you been a member? I have learned basic tengwar, but that's about it.

oh man, I've been lurking for quite a long time now... I've made a few posts in various other elvish communities, but not a whole lot.. All of them seem to have kind of died down in activity recently. Maybe no one's as interested now that the movies have been completed? That would make me sad...

Yeah - I mean, the movies were great, but I've been reading the books for 8 years now and the story and language are as exciting now as ever. (Not every year, but still...)
Anyway.
So - do you know any of the higher forms of elvish or even dwarvish?

well I've been sort of playing on again off again with trying to learn Quenya when I get the chance, but haven't really had time to fully master it. I've gotten quite good with the Tengwar end of things, as far as writing the letters, and doing calligraphy and what not, but haven't really practiced the language skills much. From what I understand there isn't a whole heck of a lot of material on the dwarvish language, so yeah...

One thing I've considered doing is putting together a Podcast, and asking for submissions of audio files of people reading various things in Sindarin and Quenya (or whatever they wanted...) since there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of actual audio content out there... But I have the server space, and the software to create a podcast feed.. I would just be interested in getting spoken Elvish in whatever form out there more readily. do you think people would be interested in submitting stuff? I was going to maybe crosspost on this community and the various other elvish communities and see if anyone would be interested in such a thing.

That sounds like a good idea. The only thing is... I don't know anyone (including myself) that can actually speak elvish. So I don't know how much help that would be. It would be fine to help set it up, however.

well, I guess mainly my idea is to, at least at first, get more people to simply pronounce the elvish, just by reading things.. whether they be things that they or others have written or what not. So that we can, you know, practice pronouncing it at the very least, if not the actual speaking of it.. But yeah, there are definitely pronunciation guides that have been left behind, and there are a few recordings of Tolkien himself reciting things he'd written. So we should be able to at least get an idea what it should sound like... anyway, I probably won't do it if I can't get anyone to submit stuff, since I kind of feel it should be sort of a group effort, with all sorts of different voices and what not.

I have listened to some of Tolkien's recordings of Elvish, and I know pronunciation guides would be helpful when used along with the recordings. There should definitely be a group involved - maybe a post on another site?
